I have no idea where this piece came from or who made it..
But there is a mystery behind it, I’m sure of it..
It has so much charm..so much handmade charm..
I don’t know where to begin..
The materials..
Start there..The incredible calicos..
A dusty blue and an old fashioned rose pink..
With a polished sheen to it..
The prints are mesmerizing..
Is this antique calico?
The edging is all fine in red and blue cotton bias tape..and that’s a lot of edging!
The skirt is 4 tiers of beautifully gathered ruffles..
a full sweep..372” sweep that’s huge!!
The calico tiers alternate and criss cross with red tape in the front..subtle and spectacular details!
The tiers are attached to an underskirt made of brick red cotton poplin..
The under dust ruffle is made of sunflower yellow crepe silk..
Knocked out from these details!
Even the thread colors have been considered..
The waist yoke is made of a rich red cotton velveteen and lined with a light blue denim..
I can see hand drawn feather motifs that have been embroidered over with silver sequins…
I love that some of the original drawn lines are visible…
The waist is finished on the inside with an orange binding..
Darts at the waist for a shaped silhouette..
Black metal hook and eyes up the back…
This piece is remarkable..
So truly unique..
I’d love to know the story behind it!
Shown with a vintage bustier, rhinestone belt , and Suedette jean jacket and not included with the skirt.
Excellent condition..very strong and wearable..has some fading to the calico and small repairs..the yellow dust ruffle has a blue ink stain and some teeny pinholes..various other marks and things as the fabrics I believe are recycled and old..
